Dundee Airtight Testing is our trusted sister company, specialising in air tightness testing for both residential and commercial buildings. As air testing is a mandatory requirement for all new builds under current building regulations, Dundee Airtight Testing helps ensure full compliance while supporting improved energy efficiency and building performance. With a skilled and experienced team, they provide accurate, reliable testing and clear reporting, helping identify and resolve any air leakage issues quickly and effectively.

Methods
We use the Blower Door Test method, this involves a large fan being installed in a door, creating a pressure difference to measure air leakage.
Regulations:
We follow Part L of the Building Regulations which mandates air tightness testing for new builds and conversions.
Compliance:
Buildings must meet specific air leakage rate requirements (e.g., ACH50, air changes per hour at 50 Pascals) to comply with regulations.
Benefits
Reduced Heat Loss:
Minimises heat escaping through leaks, leading to lower energy bills.
Improved Energy Efficiency:
Contributes to a more energy-efficient building.
Reduced CO2 Emissions:
Lower energy consumption translates to less CO2 emissions.
Process
Preparation:
Ensure the building is complete and clear of trades.
Equipment Installation:
A blower door or pulse system is installed.
Pressure Measurement:
Air leakage is measured at different pressures.
Calculation:
Software is used to calculate the air leakage rate.
Reporting:
A test certificate is produced.
Follow up
Pass/Fail:
If the air leakage rate exceeds the regulatory limit, the building may fail the test.
Remediation:
If a building fails the test, issues need to be addressed and a retest performed. Common sources of air leakage include gaps around windows and doors, cracks in walls, and penetrations for services.
